Community Genius Bar – November 9, 2013

It’s that time again. TechServ is thrilled to announce we will be holding another community genius bar this year on November 9th at HELP Philadelphia from 10am until 3pm. As usual, this event is free and open to anyone. If you have a computer that is having technical difficulties, bring it in and we’ll check it out. We’ll fix it if we can, but sometimes, there are issues that are too complex to fix on the spot. We also cannot guarantee a fix we make will be permanent nor that it is the best fix possible, but we’ll always try our best. If your device is in still under warranty, we recommend contacting your manufacturer’s support instead, but we’ll still be happy to take a look.

Check out the Facebook event!

So, if your computer needs some help, swing by HELP Philadelphia on November 9th anytime between 10am and 3pm. We’ll be in the Community Room. HELP Philadelphia is located at 4910 Wyalusing Street, Philadelphia, PA.

Some helpful things for both you and us:

  • If bringing a laptop or tablet computer, please bring your power adapter as well.
  • If bringing a desktop, please bring just the desktop. We’ll have power cords and monitors with us. However, if your issue is with your monitor, do bring it along and we’ll take a look at it.

Upcoming Changes To TicketLeap

Howdy everyone!

Just a heads up, TicketLeap has announced they are making some changes to pages for events (UNIV-101 students, this is the page you use to reserve your spots at meetings). These changes aren’t yet live to everyone, but TechServ has expressed interest in taking the redesign for a spin early. Currently, there is no set date for the go-live, but if things suddenly look very different on TicketLeap, don’t freak out. If you’d like to preview what the redesign looks like, TicketLeap has a preview on the page their very first event they’re putting together themselves.

As always, if you’re having an issue with using TicketLeap for Techserv, let us know and we’ll pass it on to TicketLeap if need be.

Cheers!

~ Stephen

UNIV-101 Students, Sign Up For Meetings Now!

Hey there UNIV-101 students! We’re excited to kick off a new academic year with weekly meetings held this term on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6p to 8p. However, we operate a bit differently than some other UNIV-101 opportunities you may have seen. If you haven’t already, make sure you read our page on UNIV-101 info. And we mean read it in full.

If you must insist on a tl;dr edition, please be aware that if you want UNIV-101 credit for TechServ, you cannot simply show up to a meeting. Last year, we implemented a policy that restricts the number of UNIV-101 students per meeting to four and you must reserve a spot. This is for a couple reasons: 1) we just don’t have the space in our workshop, 2) this helps ensure all UNIV-101 students have something to do, and 3) at TechServ, safety is one of those things we simply “care” about. To reserve a spot, you must “purchase” a ticket through TicketLeap, who we’ve chosen as our reservation system. Now, while we do say “purchase”, tickets are free. Since TicketLeap’s primary business is to sell tickets, they use the word Purchase on their site.

Once you have reserved a ticket, come to the meeting with your ticket. You can either print it, or add it to Passbook in iOS (or for you droids, show it on your phone). We scan all tickets at the door. If you do not have a ticket (and that means a valid ticket), we will not honor your UNIV-101 minutes for the meeting. For the full terms and conditions, read the UNIV-101 info page in full. We generally do not give exceptions.

To reserve your tickets, click the stupid huge button below.
