Community Genius Bar
One of TechServ’s most prevalent events that directly helps the community is our Community Genius Bar! At the Genius Bar, we typically have 10 of our members come and staff a room at the Drexel Dornsife Center and help people from all around Philadelphia. This usually includes troubleshooting any problems relating to technological devices, like computers acting slow or not working at all, or helping teach our community about how to properly utilize their devices. We usually have at least one Community Genius Bar each academic term and we will post about it on our announcement’s page when one will be happening!
General Body Meetings
TechServ has General Body Meetings throughout the academic term that helps in preparing computers for donations, while also ensuring that we handle the devices that are given to us as donations properly. No prior experience in technology is needed to attend, as we will have Officers and Team Leads at the meetings that can teach all of the basics of what we do. For more information on when/where these meetings are held, it can be found here.
Chromathon
TechServ’s largest recent donation event was called the Chromathon. The Chromathon was an event that was held with help from the Freemasons of Philadelphia, who allowed us to utilize their lodge to donate 50+ ChromeBooks to members of their community, and then teach these community member how to use their new devices properly. With the new implementation of ChromeOS on many of our donation computers, we hope to hold another event that is very similar to this one!
