On March 11 and 12, four players from the Drexel Chess Club spent the weekend before Week 10 competing at the annual Pennsylvania Collegiate Chess Championship. Although they arrived with a small team, they put up a valiant effort, finishing second with a final score of 11 points. They were only 0.5 points behind first-place winners Shippensburg, who were the defending champs.

The team was led by Paul, who finished with a great score of 4.5 points out of 5 in the U1400 section, finishing as the top collegiate player in the section, and tying for first overall in the section. He won a trophy and a cash prize for his efforts.

Additional contributors were Josh, who scored 3/5 in the U1800 section and finished as the top collegiate player in that section, Angelo, who scored 2/5 in the difficult Open section, and Nate, who scored 1.5/5 in the U1400 section.

Great job to the entire team for performing well and keeping the Drexel tradition of competing at states alive!

Not only did we win the collegiate title, but we won first place overall in the tournament. While small, the tournament was highly competitive, and after pulling out a hard-fought draw against Shippensburg Community, we emerged as the champions. We hope to return next year to defend our title!
