This week’s fencer of the week features our newbie Derek Mock!
Derek is a foil fencer and studies biology at Drexel University. As a freshman, Derek came into fencing with no prior experience, but I am happy to see his development when I manage to see him at practice.
As a captain, I am extremely proud when I see my newer fencers come out and join us in tournaments. It can be scary out there fencing against people maybe twice your height, weight, and experience. However, Derek, like many of Drexel fencers, always goes on and off strip with a smile because at the end of the day, they fenced and isn’t that what we’re all here to do?
