The Drexel Fencing Club has been hard at work preparing for their last team meet for the BWCFC. With only two weeks between this meet and Swarthmore, there was not a lot of time to prepare learning old mistakes and finding solutions. As many of our fencers learned last week, there is delicate process between revising old techniques and developing new ones.
This meet was dedicated as the North vs. Central meet meaning all the northern schools (Drexel, Temple, Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, and Millersville) faced off against the central schools (UMBC, St. Johns, Udel, Navy, and St. Marys). Like all BWCFC meets, this tournament was a team format where teams of three for each weapons faced off.
The Drexel Fencing Club is happy to announce that Foil managed 2 victories out of 4 matches, Epee received 3 victories out of 4 matches, and Sabre also won 2 out of their 4 matches. It was a great day, and there was some intel that Navy is gunning for us next year.
As a local tradition among Drexel, Coach Ahren La Londe awarded us a 75/100 for the day or Above Average. One of the biggest lessons we all learned was finding the time and place of improving a learnt skill and developing a new one. After Swarthmore, some of us were too eager to work on new techniques rather than identifying faults and perfecting learnt skills. However, that being said, many of our fencers responded to coaching well and was able to adapt quickly based on captain and coach advice.
This was the final BWCFC meet of the year, and the finally meet of the term. The Drexel Fencing Club will have an informal scrimmage with Rowan University March 10th, 2019 at the Drexel DAC. Look forward to seeing us there!
